Police are seeking two hooded youths after a 15-year-old boy was stabbed to death in east London.

Adam Regis was seen falling to the ground at the junction of Boundary Road and Kingsland Road in Plaistow on Saturday evening.

He was stabbed in the chest and abdomen and died 90 minutes later at nearby Newham General Hospital.

The senior investigating detective said there was "absolutely nothing to indicate it was a gang-related act".

'Vital information'

Det Ch Insp Ian Stevenson, of the Metropolitan Police, said: "At this very early stage of the investigation, we are trying to build up a picture of events.

"Two youths were seen running near to where the victim was found and I urgently need them to come forward as they may have vital information.

"Equally, I would appeal for anyone who may have seen the victim or the two youths in Kingsland Road to contact police."

He said Adam, whose uncle is believed to be former athlete John Regis, was black, tall for his age and was wearing white Nike trainers.
"He had been to the Showcase Cinema in Beckton with some friends earlier in the evening and may have travelled to Boundary Road by bus," Mr Stevenson said.

He said he was encouraged that a number of local people had come forward to give him information, particularly about the two hooded suspects.

"Our prime aim is to bring the culprits to justice as quickly as possible," Mr Stevenson added.

He said bus numbers 104 and 376 stopped near where the teenager was found and detectives would be examining CCTV images from the buses as a priority.

The officer said it was possible the two hooded youths had also been on a bus.

The incident comes just three days after 16-year-old Kodjo Yenga was stabbed to death in Hammersmith, west London.

Councillor Pearson Shillingford, who represents the area around Boundary Road, said the police and community needed to get together to discuss youths carrying knives.

He said teenagers could give "no good reason" for having knives and he was at a loss to explain why they did.

'Find answer'

Pastor William Lamptey, who works with young people in the area, said youth culture played a big role in the violence on the streets.

"I think it is the general culture of the youngsters, their behaviour, the way they conduct themselves.

"When you see them, the way they dress, they are telling you 'Back off, I'm a hooligan. I'm aloof, you can't talk to me.' "

Social worker Juliette Betton-Green, who lives near the scene of the stabbing, said it was particularly sad as today was Mothering Sunday.

"His family will obviously have loved him and I can't imagine how they will be feeling," she said.

"We must find an answer to this problem of violence."
